Why see The Avett Brothers?

Bluegrass Icons

The Avett Brothers are a non-traditional bluegrass band that originated in the early 2000s in Concord, North Carolina. Two brothers, Seth and Scott Avett, formed the group after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding two new members - Bob Crawford on double bass and Joe Kwon on cello. The bad.

Their sound is a refreshingly eclectic blend of traditional instruments - banjos, cello, double bass, and piano to name the most frequently heard sounds - played by true musicians with open and honest lyrics written from the heart. The Avett Brothers have managed to find their fit in between bluegrass and folk-rock genres, a place that makes them as at home at a small music festival as they are on an urban concert stage. Of their eight studio albums, the latest two have gained the band the highest positions on Billboard Charts in the US - with 2012's The Carpenter reaching Number Four and its 2013 follow-up, Magpie and the Dandelion, reaching Number Five.

The energy stirred the body, mind, and soul! Thank you for an amazing performance! Coachman Park was one of the most beautiful concert venues. Very well organized and clean. Security was comforting. Definitely family friendly! ... Read more

Avett Brothers, Oak Mountain and Rainy . . . Perfect!

First off, Trish is right in that everyone should see the HBO documentary 'May it Last' to get some insight on these guys. Second, the band's skillset and musicality compete with AK & Union Station, Mumford & Sons, Springsteen and DMB, but AB has them all beat when it comes to heart. Third, these guys act like they a) really like each other and b) know that they are there for their audience. No matter how much beer that audience drinks and no matter how much that drunk audience believes how well they sing the songs. Yeesh! You just have to take a look at the setlist to see that every album was represented and how much guts it took for them to sing 'We Americans' in the environment we find ourselves in these days. Let's throw in Oak Mountain as a great venue that is acoustically superior, very comfortable and about the best location if you are interested in walking back over the footbridge to lodging (and parking), restaurants (and parking) and oh yes, parking. I will be back! ... Read more
